Things that I learned in 2017
Since this year is coming to its end, I took the time to reflect on the most important things that I have learned, discovered and have been working on so far.
1. Self-love: Self-love should be the foundation of your being. Without self-love, you can’t take good care of yourself. You will find different types of love in your life, but this is (besides the love of God) the only love that you can always fall back on in the material world. Loving yourself is very difficult. It means to accept yourself, even your flaws. It means being close to your inner-being. And most times we are so hard on ourselves. But self-love strengthen us and it gives us the ability to have a backbone in life. It’s the most wonderful thing that I have (re)discovered. It feels like being born again.
2. Self-reflection: Reflecting on yourself/life is something that you should do frequently. Stand in front of your inner-mirror and look deeply inside of your soul, then ask yourself questions like these: Who am I? Am I the person who I want to be? What have I achieved so far? What do I want to achieve? How am I going to do this? The things that I do every day, do they really make me happy? Asking yourself these questions and working on yourself makes you a stronger and more intelligent person. It brings you closer to the things that matter in your life instead of superficial things.
3. Growth & development: Every thing that God has created, lives. Every thing that lives goes through growth and development. All the highlights and setbacks are indications of growth and development. If you personally feel that something or someone is disturbing your development, you should cut it or them off. Being able to grow and better yourself is a gift that gives meaning to life. Nothing or no one should stand in your way.
4. Faith: Just like many believers, I rely on my faith. And as a Christian I should imitate Christ daily, so that people can see Him through me. I should set an example for others in my own way. I should use my God-given gift to do the work of the Lord. And I should always put my trust in Him. In the good and bad times. I should always have faith that whatever happens, that He knows what’s best for me. The people and things that I have lost in the past have been replaced with something better. I have gained wisdom about life and I feel like I understand myself better. I’ve learned to let go of my past and all the things that I cannot change. I’ve put all my thoughts, prayers and dreams before God. And He truly sees me. I’m so excited for 2018. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me in the new year.
Whenever I achieve things in life, the first thing that I do is to thank God. I thank God for helping through a year full of love, wisdom, growth and understanding. He’s the only one who really knows my struggles in life.
I am a very private person and don’t share a lot of my life with others, so starting a blog was actually a big “scary” step for me to make. But I am glad that I did it anyway. I am glad for having such an empowering and supportive family, because without my parents, little brother and little sister, I wouldn’t have the courage to share all of this with others besides them.
I’m blogging for just a few months, but the love and feedback that I’ve received so far has made me really happy. And I want to thank everyone who has taken time out of his or her day to read my poems and send me lovely feedback. I am really grateful for that. ☺️
2018 is going to be an interesting year and I am really excited to continue this journey that I share with you.
Lots of love,
